Tips for ShopHopping

1. Bring a stack of pre-printed address labels to make it easy to enter in-store drawings, fill out your passport, and add yourself to a shop's mailing list.

2. Bring non-perishable food items to donate. You will be entered into special drawing at each shop where you donate food items. All food items will be given to food bank local to the shops where donated.

3. Wear comfortable shoes.

4. Print out the "Participating Shops" page so that you will have phone numbers in case you get lost.

5. Don't be afraid to call a shop if you are running late and it's almost closing time. You'll find that the shops will be happy to wait for you!

6. Be prepared to have lots of fun!!

Places of Interest & Things to Do

1. Lake Tahoe "Jewel of the Sierra" - Visit the place where California and Nevada meet. Lake Tahoe is a unique and beautiful national treasure that also boasts a rich and colorful historical past. Take a drive around 72 miles of beautiful shoreline, visit casinos and restaurants, hike and/or bike miles of trails in the beautiful Sierras, take a walk on the beach, witness beautiful sunsets. 2. Downtown Reno is in the midst of an urban Renaissance. Through a comprehensive program of redevelopment, private investment and rehabilitation, the downtown corridor has been improved to bring more shopping, eateries and pedestrian-friendly spaces, as well as recreational features. 3. Truckee River Whitewater Park - The Truckee River Whitewater Park is located in the heart of Reno's bustling downtown hotel-casino and booming arts district. It features 11 pools for kayak play, as well as a kayak racing course. There are activities for all skill levels. Easy public and spectator access. 4. National Automobile Museum - The Harrah Collection. The National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection) lets you travel through time like few other places can. Just two blocks from the streets of downtown Reno, you'll walk down streets of the past. Its cars, sights, sounds and places are yours to explore. Beyond the streets, you'll discover a century of automobiles: more than 220 antique, vintage, classic, special interest and one-of-a-kind wonders. You'll be dazzled by the cars of the stars. 5. Virginia City - "A Step Back in Time". Virginia City is an experience going back 150 years. Guests can stroll along authentic board sidewalks, view historic churches, scores of 19th century homes, public buildings and quaint cemeteries.  They also can visit Old West saloons, shops, museums and restaurants for free or nominal costs, ride on a stagecoach, horse-drawn carriage, trolley or the historic steam-engine Virginia and Truckee Railroad that crosses scenic high desert and landscape dotted with old mines. Located only 23 miles from Reno, 15 miles from Carson City, and 40 miles from Lake Tahoe, Virginia City is easily accessible by major highways. 6. Carson City - Nevada's Historic Capital City. Carson City prides itself on preserving and celebrating its past—a big reason why the editors of True West magazine recently named it the “Best Western Historical Site.” A visit to Carson City is an opportunity to catch a glimpse of Nevada’s rich and colorful history. Today, the best way to explore Carson City’s historic sites is with a stroll or drive on the Kit Carson Trail. The 2.5-mile tour, which is marked with a bright blue line, passes more than 60 of the community’s most historic buildings and homes, many constructed in the 1860s and 1870s. 7. Nevada State Railroad Museum - Carson City. The Nevada State Railroad Museum is a state run museum located in Carson City. Its purpose is to showcase the history of railroading in Nevada, with a particular focus on the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. Many of its large artifacts are remnants of that railroad. The museum owns eight steam locomotives, of which four are original V&T equipment and three are operational. The museum also has a large number of railroad cars and coaches, including most of the remaining V&T cars in existence. 8. Reno Hot Air Balloon Races The Great Reno Balloon Race is the largest free hot air ballooning event in the Nation. During three days in early September, you can look up into the Reno skies and see a rainbow of hot air balloons soaring about. From its humble beginnings in 1982 with just 20 balloons, The Great Reno Balloon Race has taken flight with more than 100 balloons each year. Taking place just a few miles north of downtown Reno, the event enchants both young and old with its vibrant colors and inspiring music. The Balloon Race has won many awards over the years including 'Best Special Event in Reno' and 'Best Special Event in Northern Nevada.' With an average of 150,000 spectators attending the event each year, the number of lives touched by the beautiful spectacle continues to rise just like the balloons themselves.
